Los Angeles - Los Angeles

 

Day 1: Los Angeles
Evening arrival in Los Angeles. You will be welcomed by your guide and taken to your hotel.

Day 2: Los Angeles
You will visit the famous Universal Studios, location of the greatest movie studios in the world. A narrated tram tour shows where and how movies are made. Visitors see props, sound stages, demonstrations of special effects and sets from such films as “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”. Other highlights include a bike ride with E.T. “Back to the Future - the Ride” and “Backdraft” offer respectively a sense of high-speed time travel and being trapped in a fiery inferno. Lunch within the park. Morning, sightseeing in the city. Hollywood features a walk down Hollywood Boulevard and a visit to Mann’s Chinese Theater where you will find the handprints and signatures of many famous stars imprinted in the sidewalk outside. Next, a visit of Beverly Hills and downtown, the business district and the Mexican quarter. Dinner and overnight in Los Angeles.
 


Day 3: Los Angeles - Palm Springs - Phoenix (621 km - 6h10)
Drive to Palm Springs through the Mojave Desert. Sitting in lush farming land, replete with manicured golf courses, condominiums and millionaires, the city does not conform to any typical image of the desert, embodying a strange mix of Spanish Colonial and mid-century modern styling. Optional Aerial Tramway. A thrilling cable car ride shuttles visitors from the desert floor to the heights of Mt. San Jacinto, sometimes providing a 40-degree temperature drop in just a few minutes. Lunch. Continue to Phoenix driving along Joshua Tree (entrance not included). Arrival at your hotel in Scottsdale late in the day. Western dinner at Rawhide restaurant. Overnight in Scottsdale.

Day 4: Phoenix - Grand Canyon (355 km - 4h30)
Drive North. Stop in Montezuma Castle. It features well-preserved cliff dwellings. They were built and used by the Pre-Columbian people around 1400 AD. Stop in Sedona, charming twin in Oak Creek Canyon, a superb 12 mile long river gorge. Continue to the Grand Canyon. Lunch. Visit of Grand Canyon, a superb geological phenomenon. A walk along the South Rim to see one of the most beautiful wonders in the world, the Grand Canyon, which is the result of millions of years of wind and water erosion, protected by the magnificent forest surrounding it. The Colorado River, one of the high points of our trip, flows 4,500 feet below.. An optional scenic helicopter tour with commentary of the canyon. Dinner and lodging in Grand Canyon Village.

 


Day 5: Grand Canyon - Monument Valley - Page (480 km - 7h30)
Depart for Monument Valley, where you will find yourself surrounded by dark red hills. A visit of this impressive sight, where numerous cowboy and Western movies were filmed. This desert plain, which is 25 miles long and 16 miles wide, bristles with gigantic sandstone monolithic structures. Lunch . Optional jeep tour and lunch with the Navaho Indians. Arrive in Page in the afternoon and stop on the banks of Lake Powell and at Glen Canyon Dam. Western dinner at Ken’s Old West. Overnight in Kanab.
 

Day 6: Page - Bryce Canyon (240 km - 3h30)
Morning optional visit of the mysterious Antelop Canyon during a unique excursion. Then, beautiful trip across the prairies on the road to Bryce Canyon. Lunch. Visit of Bryce Canyon, one of the most beautiful natural parks of Utah. The Mormons discovered this site during the last century. The shapes, colors and shades of the stone and the famous Pink Cliffs change constantly from dawn to dusk. Overnight nearby Bryce Canyon.
 

Day 7: Bryce - Zion - Las Vegas (400 km - 5h)
Leave for the oldest park in Utah, Zion Canyon 15 miles long and up to half a mile deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River, The park is known for its cathedral shaped rocks and cliffs. Some of these reach as high as 4,000 feet. Continue towards Saint George, one of the towns, which was founded by the Mormons. Lunch. Drive to Las Vegas, the gaming capital of the world, glittering like a mirage in the desert. Free time to discover some of the flamboyant hotel-casinos. In the evening, you will have time to give way to the fever of the games. Dinner and overnight in Las Vegas.

Day 8: Las Vegas & Valley of Fire (110 km - 1h30)
Drive to Valley of Fire. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. Lunch. Return to Las Vegas. Free afternoon to enjoy gaming or the hotel swimming pool. Dinner and overnight in Las Vegas.

Day 9 : Las Vegas - Death Valley - Mammoth Lakes (585 km - 7h50)
Cross the Nevada desert, traveling towards Pahrump and Shoshone. Arriving in California, you then descend to famous Death Valley, which is situated approximately 320 feet below sea level. This area is so desolate that the first cowboys who crossed it described it as: “No stream to drink from, no tree to hang from.” You will discover Badwater Point, the lowest part of the valley, Furnace Creek, and the sand dunes of Stovepipe. Lunch on in Death Valley. Continue to Mammoth Lakes. Dinner and overnight in this charming mountainous little town. Mid-October through mid-June : overnight in Bakersfield.
 


Day 10 : Mammoth Lakes - Yosemite - San Francisco (500 km - 7h)
Drive in the direction of Yosemite National Park with its pine and redwood forests, and magnificent waterfalls. You will discover Yosemite Valley where you will see El Capitan, a prominent granite cliff that looms over the valley, is one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in the world because of its diverse range of climbing routes in addition to its year-round accessibility. Granit domes such as Sentinel Rock and Half Dome rise 3,000 feet and 4,800 feet, respectively, above the valley floor. The 2,400 foot-high (739 m) Yosemite Falls is the highest in North America. Lunch in the park. Drive to San Francisco. Dinner and overnight in the city by the bay.
 

Day 11: San Francisco
Morning guided tour of San Francisco, one of the most photographed, filmed, and documented cities in the world…a tantalizing mixture of history and modern sophistication, gem of the magnificent bay. You will visit the business district, Union Square, Chinatown and the Golden Gate Bridge. Lunch on the famous Pier 39 in Fisherman’s Wharf. Afternoon optional visit of Alcatraz : cruise to the infamous and notorious former federal prison - home to the likes of Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelley, and Robert "The Birdman" Stroud. Free late afternoon in San Francisco, where you will be able to do some shopping. Return to the hotel in one of the famous cable car. Dinner and overnight.
 

Day 11: San Francisco - Santa Maria (486 km - 5h)
Departure for Monterey, magnificent site of beaches, cypress trees, and cliffs. This town has been a favorite spot for many American and European painters and poets. A visit of the town, particularly the fishing port and Cannery Row, which was made famous by John Steinbeck. Optional visit of Monterey Bay Aquarium, one of the nicest in the United States. Lunch in Monterey. You will then take the famous 17 Mile Drive, . a scenic road through Pacific Grive and Pebble Beach, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. Later you will visit Carmel, one the most charming cities in California. Dinner and overnight in Santa Maria.

Day 12: Santa Maria - Los Angeles (270 km - 2h40)
Departure for Santa Barbara. This is a charming city. It’s heritage is evident in its many whitewashed, tuke-roffed buildings and Spanish street names. Lunch and then departure towards Los Angeles. Mid-afternoon, visit of Santa Monica. Free time to enjoy the beach or to do last minute shopping. Dinner and overnight in Los Angeles.

Day 13: Departure
The morning will be free to discover the city as you choose. Meet at the hotel for your transportation to the airport. Return flight.
